On Tuesday,
author and illustrator, Mary Newell DePalma visited us at Fuller Meadow School. The first graders listened and watched as DePalma told us about her job and her inspiration for stories and illustrations, which almost always comes from nature.
In class we read DePalma's book,
The Grand Old Tree. This wonderful story tells about the life of a tree through the seasons and over many years.

After reading, the first graders created their own grand old trees through the seasons and wrote about them using transition words and details.
